Leadership Portland Spotlight: Eric Deisler

Company: Pacific West Bank
Job: Vice President, Commercial Lending Officer
Why they got involved in Leadership Portland:
LP is an opportunity to sharpen my broader skill set and learn from other professionals in the business community about not only how to effectively lead but gain awareness on issues that drive our region. Our city has gone through much trials and tribulations over the recent years and my goal is to be part of the solution to ensure Portland continues to be remain a wonderful place to work and raise a family.
Why it’s important:
Continued focus on leadership development is a primary focus of mine not only as a growing leader within my organization, but within my family. My take on leadership development is that the better leader you are within your own family, the better leader you are as a professional within your organization. My 3 three rules for my sons are – “be nice, work hard, listen”, and I strive to maintain that focus in my personal and professional life – LP will only help to instill that value proposition that I care so much about. A vital component to being a quality leader here in Portland is gaining an understanding of the community issues that affect everyone in our region; my goal is to carry the knowledge and relationships built within LP to advocate for policies and action that keep Portland a wonderful place to work and raise a family.
Why Eric loves the Portland region:
I enjoy the Mountains, Rivers, Ocean, Gorge and Agricultural Regions in and around PDX. Me and my family spend most of our time in these areas and love how Oregon provides infinite opportunities for exploring. My happy place is a small farm market known as “Helvetia Market” just 30 mins. outside of PDX where me and my family enjoy watching the farm animals run around while having the opportunity to purchase local vegetables, meats and misc. products from makers HQ’d right here in PDX and the surrounding regions.
I had the opportunity to play college baseball for 4 years at a small college which ultimately led to me being the first college graduate in my family. I do not play baseball anymore however do coach Little League and attend Hops/Pickles games quite frequently 😊. Outside of my affinity for the game of baseball, I love to carve out time exploring a trail somewhere in the region with my wife and kids whenever I get the chance. An opportunity to get outside is always a perfect release and opportunity to reset your mind.
