Leadership Portland Spotlight: Hilary Olson
Name: Hilary Olson
Company: Urban Renaissance Group
Job: Project Manager
Why Hilary got involved in Leadership Portland:
I was referred to the program by my boss and our office's regional manager as they wanted to sponsor my application. I am always seeking new ways to strengthen my capabilities as a leader and to get more engaged in the Portland business community. This program seemed like a great fit!
Why it’s important:
I have always found myself to be a natural leader, however, I know that there is still so much that I can learn and new techniques that I can adapt to and take with me. I think that developing these leadership skills will not only help me navigate my career, but it will also help me to better engage with the community around me. I think that it is also important to understand community issues that are both within your immediate community, but also your larger community. We inherently have bias and sometimes put the blinders on to issues that might not be impacting your day to day. However, being able to plug in, listen, and engage is how we can make a change in our immediate and greater communities. This is a really interesting time to develop these skills and discuss ways to get involved and make some change!
Why HIlary loves the Portland region:
I love the Portland food and wine scene. I find a lot of joy in exploring new restaurants throughout the city and vising urban wineries/tasting rooms as well as the amazing assortment out in the surrounding Willamette Valley region. Favorite local spot is Bar Norman on SE Clinton!
I have my Architecture degree from the University of Oregon (GO DUCKS!) and before venturing into Real Estate Development/Project Management, I had a short stint managing a local wine shop in NE Portland. I had a wonderful time connecting with customers, winemakers, and distributors and still love to venture out into wine country to explore the amazing wines OR has to offer!
