Donate your TechNOW, help Oregon students

Help close the digital divide by giving Oregon students access to technology.

Oregon Business Council, Intel, and First Tech Credit Union are partnering with Portland Business Alliance, Oregon Business & Industry, Technology Association of Oregon, Oregon CTE-STEM Employer Coalition, and other business organizations to give students access to technology to ensure that every child has the tools they need to thrive.

WHY: Oregon students and educators are navigating the COVID-19 crisis and adjusting to a new normal. The disruption of distance learning has highlighted deep inequities of opportunity, including access to technology. It is estimated that more than 75,000 students need computers for online learning, connecting to teachers, and to meet other essential technology needs of their families like telehealth.

WHAT: In partnership with Free Geek, the business community is uniting to launch the TechNOW Campaign - a series of contactless drive-through technology collection sites across the Portland Metro and Salem region from May 27 - June 7. We are collecting laptops, tablets, and cell phones during this campaign. Our goal is to provide 10,000 computers to students in need.

HOW: Businesses can support TechNOW in three ways:
  1. Make a corporate donation of equipment or cash
  2. Share with employees and encourage their donations
  3. Promote with customers, partners, and through social media
Business surplus laptops are a priority for Free Geek as they have the highest reusability and impact.

Contact Tom Cox, [email protected], Free Geek Business Development Manager, to learn more and arrange a corporate donation. Financial contributions allow Free Geek to purchase technology.

Contact Hilary Shohoney, [email protected], Geek Community Development Director, to make a gift of any amount.

Please share this campaign with your employees, customers, and other partners to donate personal technology and dollars. Visit the TechNOW Business Info site for more information, including an overview and FAQs, to make it easy for you to share.
