Erin Reed of Deacon Construction gives back to NICU Families Northwest

Name: Erin Reed
Company: Deacon Construction
Job: Marketing Coordinator

What She Did: In 2015, Erin Reed encountered a very special personal challenge: her son Wyatt was born prematurely, and spent 45 days in the local NICU. During their stay, Erin got connected with NICU Families Northwest. She joined the board of directors in the summer of 2016 and since then has committed countless hours to offering support to other local NICU families, including distributing books, Christmas gifts and We Care Packages to five metro area NICU’s, as well as coordinating meals and opportunities for graduate families to get together, and participating as a moderator on the online web forum for parents.

Why It's Important: "Giving back has always been a big part of who I am,” said Erin. “Whether it’s supporting the efforts of MDA and the Emanuel Burn Unit through my husband’s work, coaching high school kids (which I've been doing for more than 10 years now) or just attending nonprofit fundraisers, I have always felt that it is important to support the community I live in. My work with NICU Families really helps me feel like I'm making a difference."

Organization Supported: NICU Families Northwest is a nonprofit organization that offers practical, ongoing, social and emotional support to families of babies born into the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) of hospitals in the Portland Metro and Vancouver, WA areas.

“Erin came to NICU Families Northwest in its inaugural year and has been an incredible asset to the growth of our organization,” said Anna David, executive director of NICU Families Northwest. “She is enthusiastic and committed to our mission while bringing a polished professionalism and responsibility to every project she tackles. In our first year of operations, Erin built relationships with corporate grant-makers, advocated for our services in the hospital community, and kept us in touch with social media trends and best practices. We are so fortunate to have a champion like Erin working with us on behalf of local NICU Families.”
