James Hein Listed in Portland Business Journal’s 2021 Forty Under 40

Tonkon Torp partner James Hein has been honored by the Portland Business Journal as one of its 2021 Forty Under 40 award recipients. The annual award recognizes influential business and community leaders in the greater Portland area who are 40 or younger. Judging is based on career accomplishments, business influence and leadership, and community and civic involvement.

Some of the achievements that helped Hein to stand out from hundreds of nominees include:

  • Exemplary corporate counsel work representing local and regional businesses in all varieties of industries, as well as structuring complex merger and acquisition transactions with valuations ranging from low seven figures to high nine figures.
  • Working as Chair of Tonkon Torp's Pro Bono Committee, helping to connect attorneys with meaningful pro bono work. In October 2020, Hein was honored with the Pro Bono Award of Merit by the Multnomah Bar Association.
  • Community and civic involvement with organizations focused on youth services, houselessness, and access to justice. Hein provides hundreds of hours of pro bono legal counsel, working directly with community members as an active volunteer for the Oregon Law Center, Legal Aid Roseburg Virtual Clinic, and the Lewis & Clark Small Business Legal Clinic.
  • Serving as a director on the boards for Minds Matter of Portland, Transition Projects, and Montessori Children’s House.

He joins the ranks of Tonkon Torp lawyers who have received this award in prior years, including David Forman (2004), Steven Wilker (2005), Jeff Cronn (2008), Anna Sortun (2017), and Blerina Kotori (2018).
