DHS Announces Extension of REAL ID Full Enforcement Deadline

DHS Announces Extension of REAL ID Full Enforcement Deadline

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas today announced a 19-month extension of the REAL ID enforcement deadline.  The new enforcement deadline, by which passengers boarding commercial aircraft must present REAL ID compliance documents at TSA checkpoints, is May 3, 2023.

Since last year, ACI-NA has advocated for an extension out of concern about the low saturation of REAL ID compliant licenses and identification cards, and the impact on airport operations.  In speaking recently with Secretary Mayorkas, ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke re-emphasized the importance of extending the deadline.  ACI-NA issued a statement today applauding the extension of the REAL ID enforcement deadline
