“Shop. Eat. Play.”: The Power of Portlanders

“Shop. Eat. Play.”: The Power of Portlanders

During the weekend of Aug. 24-25, the City of Portland and countless community partners teamed up to call for residents to “Shop. Eat. Play.” in downtown to show their support to businesses who were adversely impacted by the Aug. 17 demonstrations.
To help encourage residents to come downtown, community partners worked with Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) to offer special transportation and parking promotions, including:

  • BIKETOWN free all day;
  • Free parking at street meters and SmartPark;
  • Portland Streetcar free all day;
  • Free rides on Lime, Bird and Spin Scooters; and
  • Discounted rides with Lyft.

Those promotions along with downtown weekend events were promoted on social media channels, resulting in high activity on Saturday and Sunday.

Additionally, there was strong media coverage throughout the week and weekend.

Media coverage: Ultimately, the message to Shop, Eat, Play downtown helped unify the community into supporting small businesses and retailers in the heart of the Rose City.
