Legacy Health announces pick for new president and CEO

Legacy Health announced that Kathryn Correia will succeed Dr. George Brown as president and CEO of the Portland-based hospital system.

Correia, whom Legacy’s board selected unanimously after a nationwide search, will take over in late June. She comes to Portland from Minnesota, where she served as CEO of HealthEast, a health system serving the east-metro of Minneapolis.

She led that organization’s merger with Fairview Health Services to create the largest health system in Minnesota, exceeding the Mayo Clinic. Correia then became Fairview’s chief administrative officer and helped lead integration planning, advocacy and philanthropic efforts.

Correia — pronounced Cor-ee-uh — said she wasn’t looking for a new gig. A colleague recommended her to the consultants for Legacy’s search committee and told her, “‘This job is made for you, with their sense of community and mission,’” Correia said.

“Legacy has done a lot to invest in the future, and I wanted to be part of its future,” Correia said. “My short-term plan is to get to know as much as I can as fast as I can and do so in a way that supports the organization to keep up its momentum and keeps its good work going.”
