Portland Business Alliance announces new President and CEO

Andrew Hoan to join Alliance on June 18.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Today, the Portland Business Alliance is pleased to announce the hire of Andrew Hoan as the President and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance effective June 18, 2018.

Andrew comes to the Alliance with years of very successful chamber of commerce executive leadership, most recently as the President and CEO of the Brooklyn, New York Chamber of Commerce.

Under Andrew’s leadership, the Brooklyn Chamber claims many notable accomplishments including: growing membership to the largest levels in recent history, directing the 2018 Centennial Year activities, creating a loan fund for immigrant- and minority-owned businesses, being awarded the New York State Chamber of Commerce of the Year in 2017, funding and creating an Economic Strategic Plan for Brooklyn called The Next 100 Years, and launching an inaugural Annual City Hall Legislative Visit, the third and final leg of the Chamber’s advocacy trips including Albany and Washington D.C.

A Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native and University of Wisconsin and NYU graduate, Andrew and his wife Karina Hoan made a very intentional decision to move to Portland to raise their family, which currently includes one young son. Karina, after completing her fellowship, began her position as a minimally invasive OB-GYN surgeon with The Portland Clinic. They are thrilled to make Portland their home.

Andrew will take over the reins from Sandra McDonough who is retiring Aug. 1 after a very notable 14-year career as the President and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance.
“I am very excited that our board has selected an experienced community leader to be the next CEO of the Portland Business Alliance,” Sandra said. “I look forward to welcoming Andrew and his family to Portland and helping him engage successfully in our community.”

Board Chair Jim Mark, who headed up the search committee, said, “After a national search that included a diverse pool of more than 55 applicants, we are very fortunate as a community to find a candidate who has the depth of experience Andrew brings, along with his ability to offer new perspectives to our region as we experience unprecedented growth as well as new challenges and opportunities in Portland.”
Andrew Hoan said, “I embrace the opportunity to lead the Portland Business Alliance in its next iteration of growth and evolution. The Alliance’s leaders and staff have built a healthy and sustainable organization. The Board of Directors and I are committed to continuing to be strong community partners as the city and region change. I look forward to working closely with the talented staff at the Alliance, our members and our external stakeholders to ensure that the quality of life that is so highly valued across this diverse area is supported and preserved as Portland and Oregon continue to prosper.”
