Portland Police Budget
In early April, the Alliance organized a call-to-action campaign that generated 270 individual emails to city council members in support of additional resources for the Portland Police Bureau. The request included funds for new sworn officers, as well as funds for additional administrative positions, and technology and equipment upgrades. The additional funding would help enable a community policing model and 21st Century policing strategies supported by Mayor Wheeler and Chief Outlaw. It will also enable improved response times, which are up significantly, and begin to address overtime costs and upcoming retirements. The chair of our board of directors, Jim Mark, also penned an opinion piece for the Portland Tribune back in March on this topic.
