Portland City Council and the Multnomah County Commission recently passed resolutions establishing a goal that community-wide energy needs will be met with 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. At the urging of the Alliance, the city pulled back from an earlier version that was on the agenda in order to provide additional time to work with impacted parties. The Alliance sent a letter supporting the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while also urging for flexibility based on evolving technologies and maintaining affordability. The letter also cautioned against using scarce city resources to develop new renewable resources given the multitude of private and nonprofit providers. Read the letter.
