Two of Oregon’s largest manufacturing companies, Vigor Industrial and Oregon Iron Works, have announced that they are merging. Vigor Industrial builds and repairs ships in North Portland, and Oregon Iron Works is best known for building streetcars for Portland and other cities through its United Streetcar subsidiary. The combined company will employ about 2,300 in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. The merger will take effect in late June and Vigor’s CEO Frank Foti expects for the merger to allow to the company to add jobs in the Pacific Northwest. The merger also has potential to bring greater developments for the state’s manufacturing industry.
