PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Business Alliance has named David Thompson its chief operating officer, with the new position beginning in November 1, 2016.
Thompson joined the Alliance in 2013 as vice president for membership and small business. He has also served as the organization’s general counsel. He will retain oversight of those efforts but, as COO, will also take on responsibility for finance as well as other operational functions of the organization.
Prior to joining the Alliance, Thompson was an attorney at Bullard Smith Jernstedt Wilson, where he practiced employment and labor law, counseling public and private employers on a range of issues. While at Bullard, he advised employers on issues including labor, contract administration, employee relations, discipline and discharge, workplace training seminars and risk compliance.
“David is a strong leader. He has successfully grown our membership revenues during his three short years at the Alliance and has taken on a number of other responsibilities, including management of the 150 member events we do every year. This new position will give him even greater impact on our work on behalf of the Alliance’s 1,850 members throughout the Portland-metro region,” said Sandra McDonough, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance.
Thompson serves as treasurer for the City Club of Portland board of governors, secretary for the Portland Parks Foundation, and member of the Morrison Child and Family Services board of directors. Previously, he served on the Santa Clara University board of regents, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps board of directors, and the Portland/Vancouver Connector Project. He also supports a number of other nonprofits including Friends of the Children, Black Parent Initiative, Jesuit High School and St. Francis of Assisi Dining Hall.
Thompson received his Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University and Masters in Business Administration from University of Oregon.
