Portland, Ore. – The Portland Business Alliance board of directors today announced its endorsement of John Kitzhaber in his bid for re-election as Oregon’s governor, as well as positions on a number of ballot measures.
“Governor John Kitzhaber has been a true advocate for business and job development in the state and a strong partner on issues that are high priority for the Alliance, such as economic development, reinvention of our education system, transportation investment, PERS reform and others,” said Sandra McDonough, president & CEO of the Portland Business Alliance. “We look forward to working with him in an unprecedented fourth term as Oregon’s governor.”
Additionally, the Alliance board voted to endorse:
- Renewal of the Portland Public Schools local option operating levy;
- The proposed Portland Parks bond measure;
- The “Open Primary” ballot measure, which would reform Oregon’s candidate election system; and
- The proposed “Oregon Opportunity” program which would authorize the Legislature to create a financial aid fund for Oregon students going to college or trade schools.
More information about the ballot measure endorsements can be found on the Alliance website.
The Alliance considers a number of candidate and issue races for possible endorsement each election cycle. Committees interview individuals involved with the races and then recommends a position to the full board of directors. Two-thirds of the board members present must agree before an endorsement is made.
