Kaiser Permanente NW donates $2.27 million to address homelessness

Kaiser Permanente NW recently awarded grants to seven nonprofit agencies across the region, from Cowlitz to Lane counties, to support unique programs that engage community health workers and peer counselors in helping people with mental illness and addiction disorders find and sustain housing. The grants follow a $4 million contribution in September of 2016 to the Housing Is Health initiative, a partnership with Central City Concern, which will create 380 units of housing, including 175 units of medically supported housing in Portland. Kaiser also partnered with local health care providers to create the new Unity Center for Behavioral Health, which opened this month.
