Involvement

Because the Portland Business Alliance is a member-based organization, there are many ways to get involved. Below is our full list of committees and task forces. Whether you are a young professional, a small business owner, a policy expert or a person who simply wants to lend a hand, there are a variety of options for you. It is easy to get involved, fill out Committee Interest Form and the appropriate Alliance staff member will contact you with more information.

Advocacy


GOVERNMENT RELATIONS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Serves as PAC Board for political endorsements and contributions. Reviews key policy recommendations for Alliance Board approval. Membership by appointment only.
Committee Chair: Christopher Denzin, CenturyLink

EDUCATION SUBCOMMITTEE
Develops and reviews public policy proposals related to all levels of the education continuum, with a focus on K-12 (common core implementation), CTE/STEM education, post-secondary education and workforce development to meet business needs.
For Members Interest In: Education and workforce development related issues.

Schedule: Quarterly (March, June, September and December), Second Wednesday
Time: noon - 1:30 p.m.

LAND USE SUBCOMMITTEE
Develops and reviews public policy proposals related to the broad range of local and regional land use issues.
For Members Interest In: Land use planning and development issues.

Schedule: Quarterly (February, May, September and December), Second Thursday
Time: 7:30 - 9 a.m.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST INTERNATIONAL TRADE ASSOCIATION (PNITA) COUNCIL
Works to advance PNITA's trade interests in federal trade policy negotiations and track regulatory developments that affect the competitiveness of Northwest businesses; identifies federal tax impediments that hinder regional businesses to compete effectively in the global marketplace, and works directly with congressional leaders and senior tax committee staff on draft legislation.
For Members Interest In: Public policy and International Trade. Following an initial orientation members are either active or informed.

PUBLIC POLICY/LUNCH WITH LEADERS
Serves as a forum for members to interact with elected and community leaders, as well as identify policy issues that impact business.
For Members Interest In: Public Policy and interacting with elected officials at scheduled events
Location: Portland Business Alliance office, 200 SW Market, Lobby Conference Room
Schedule: Quarterly, (March, June, September and December), Third Wednesday
Time: noon

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
Develops and reviews public policy proposals related to a broad range of transportation topics: freight mobility, transit, projects, policies, and funding.
For Members Interest In: Public Policy and issues impacting the region's transportation systems and mobility.
Committee Chair: David Knowles, CH2M Hill
Location: Portland Business Alliance office, 200 SW Market, Lobby Conference Room
Schedule: Monthly: Every other month (February, April, June, August, October and December), Second Tuesday
Time: Noon to 1:30 p.m.

The Alliance will create task forces from time to time on specific issues that are short-term in nature and require in depth review and analysis.

Alliance Vitality


MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
Plans and develops marketing and communications efforts that support the positioning of the Portland Business Alliance and the general business community; and advises on the Alliance's large-scale events. Committee chair sits on the Alliance's board and its Executive Committee.

PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL
Council members act as membership mentors to new members and assist in member retention. Members also serve as event Ambassadors.

Downtown Vitality


CENTRAL CITY STANDING COMMITTEE
Provides leadership in maintaining the appearance, safety and function of the Central City to keep it clean, safe and attractive.
For Members Interested In: Vibrant downtown; Committee chair is a member of the Alliance's board and its Executive Committee.

DOWNTOWN RETAIL COUNCIL
Conducts cooperative retail promotions. Oversees implementation of the Downtown Retail Strategy and represents the collective interests of downtown retailers to elected governmental bodies. Members must be restaurateurs, hoteliers or retailers inside the downtown Clean & Safe District.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
Develops and reviews Central City public-safety oriented initiatives, policies and programs.

A PLACE WITH NO CEILING TASK FORCE
Plans and executes annual women's event honoring women in business. Active January through September.

Small Business


SMALL BUSINESS COUNCIL
Serves as a forum for small business members to hear from select government agencies regarding new programs and policies and provides an opportunity for small business members to give informed input on public policy issues.

Sustainability


SUSTAINABILITY ROUND TABLE
Provides an avenue for like-minded members to get together to share information and network. The group hears from a featured business and speaker on various topics of sustainability.
